What the website and the app collect, where it is kept, and how to have it removed.

Draft awaiting legal review. This page has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet and may change before the app launches.

The short version

  • The app keeps your photos, marks, client names, client signatures and job details on your phone. They are not uploaded to ClarityCam.
  • Three things leave the phone on their own: a fingerprint of each record, sent to a timestamp service; a request for the current time; and, unless you turn it off, a weather lookup that sends the photo's location rounded to about 1 km to the US National Weather Service. None of them contains photos or names.
  • The website collects only what you type into the pilot form: your email and your trade.
  • No ads, no tracking scripts, no analytics, and nothing is sold.

The website

Pilot signups

When you join the pilot we store your email address, your trade (or the trade you type in) and the time you signed up, so we can contact you about the pilot. We keep it in a private database on our host, Render; Render keeps daily backups of it for seven days. If you sign up twice with the same email, we keep one entry. We do not sell it or share it with anyone else, and we keep it until the pilot ends or you ask us to delete it.

Server logs

Our host, Render, keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses and browser details, to run and protect the service.

Cookies

The site sets two cookies that it needs to work: one protects the pilot form against forged submissions, and one carries the "You're on the list" message to the next page. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

Fonts and files

Every font, image and script is served from this site. Your browser does not contact Google or any other third party to show these pages.

Do Not Track

The site does not track you across other sites, so it treats every visitor the same whether or not the browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

The app

Kept on your phone

The app stores these on the phone that took them:

  • Photos, the damage marks and labels you add, and the original of every marked photo.
  • Job details: the client's name, the property address and the trade.
  • Your client's signature and the photos they reviewed.
  • Your business details, if you enter them for reports: business name, phone, email and license number.
  • For each photo: the time, how that time was checked, the GPS location and its accuracy, the compass direction, and whether the phone reported a simulated location.

There is no account. The app asks for the camera and location only; it does not use the microphone or your contacts. A report or evidence package leaves the phone only when you share or export it, and then it goes where you send it.

Independent timestamp

To prove when a record existed, the app sends a SHA-256 fingerprint of it to the timestamp service set in the app (for example FreeTSA). The fingerprint is a short code computed from the files. It does not contain the photos, names, signatures or locations, and the files cannot be rebuilt from it. Like any website, the service sees the phone's IP address.

Time check

The app asks a public network time server for the current time, so the report can say how each time was checked. The server sees the phone's IP address and nothing about your jobs.

Weather record

Unless you turn it off in the app's Settings, after a photo the app asks the US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) what the nearest weather station reported, at most once per job every 3 hours. It sends the photo's location rounded to about 1 km, plus a name for the app; the service also sees the phone's IP address. The response is stored with the record and labeled as third-party weather on reports. The phone does not measure the weather itself.

Your clients

When a client signs, their name and signature are stored with the record on your phone and appear on the report you send. Tell clients what you record and why before they sign.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you from the website, have it corrected, or have it deleted: email support@getclaritycam.com from the address you signed up with. App records live on your phone, and ClarityCam has no copy. In the pilot build, uninstalling the app removes them from that phone; deleting a single job is not available yet. Your phone's own backups, and copies you have already sent, are not affected.

Children

ClarityCam is for businesses and is not meant for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We will update this page when the site or app changes what it collects, and change the date below.
