ClarityCam: a shot checklist in the camera Prototype screen

Prove the driveway was cracked before the dumpster came.

On a roof job, the claims come from the ground: a cracked driveway under the dumpster, crushed flower beds, a dented gutter, a ceiling crack inside. Shoot it all before tear-off.

"Your dumpster cracked my driveway."

Before tear-off

  1. The driveway where the dumpster and trailer will sit, with every existing crack marked.
  2. Gutters, downspouts and fascia on every side.
  3. Siding, windows and skylights below the roof line.
  4. Landscaping, flower beds, shrubs and the lawn along the drop zone.
  5. AC units, decks, patios, fences and anything that could catch debris.
  6. Inside: ceilings and walls on the top floor and in the garage, and the attic if you can reach it. Existing cracks and stains, marked.
  7. The roof itself: existing damage, soft spots and flashing, from the ground or a safe spot.
  8. Vehicles parked nearby and the neighbor's side of the property line.

Walk it with the homeowner

Before the crew unloads, the homeowner reviews the photos and signs on your phone. Their signature is tied to the exact photos they saw, and they get a copy.

After cleanup

After the magnet sweep and cleanup, shoot the same angles again. In After mode the app lays each before photo over the camera as a ghost, so the comparison is from the same spot.

If they say you did it

  1. Ask where and when they found the damage.
  2. Find that spot in your before photos. If it is marked there, it was already there, and they signed off on it.
  3. Send the record. The independent timestamp shows it existed no later than the stamped time, before the job started.
  4. The homeowner, their insurer or a lawyer can check the evidence package at getclaritycam.com/verify.

What the record can't show

A record shows what the property looked like before and after. It cannot show what caused a new crack, or anything you did not photograph.

Questions

Do I really need photos inside the house?

Tear-off can shake a house. Ceiling and wall cracks that were already there are a common dispute, so shoot the top floor and the garage.

What about the neighbor's property?

If your dumpster, trailer or debris will be near it, shoot their side of the line too.

How long does a pre-job sweep take?

It depends on the house. The app's roofing checklist tells you what to shoot, so you don't have to remember it.

Can it prove the roof leak isn't my fault?

No. It shows the condition before and after your work, not what caused a leak.
